The Documentary "Afghanistan, Land of Wonders" has been finalised. After the final editing that was concluded at the end of August, a long process has come to an end that started with initial research in autumn 2008, followed by filming trips to Afghanistan and Russia in the months that followed.
The documentary has now been submitted to the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) for selection to this event which will take place from 19 - 29 November 2009. Following this festival, the 51-minute documentary will also be submitted to other festivals and broadcasting corporations around the world. Lastly, screening events will be organised in the coming months in Europe and Russia.

Afghanistan, Land of Wonders:

2009 – Twenty years after the end of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, a group of Russian veterans looks back at a country which – despite all the tragedy – they still call the “Land of Wonders”. In comparison, today the Afghan people continue to suffer from yet another war, to which the veterans refer with mixed opinions. In a way, the mysterious and colourful “Land of Wonders” only lives on in the minds of the Russian veterans. The current war and suffering is real. Filmed in Afghanistan and Russia, the documentary “Land of Wonders” shows that in the midst of human suffering, there is still room for both Russians and Afghans to reflect on the beautiful aspects of Afghanistan. Next to the Russian veterans, the documentary contains Afghan immigrants in Russia, and Afghans in Afghanistan who fought on either side of the conflict.
